Where to find gold in Idaho by County
Below i have alphabetically listed what states gold can be found in Idaho and a small paragraph which goes into more detail, all images can be made bigger by clicking on them –
In Ada County, 22,000 ounces of gold have been recovered from the Black Hornet District. This is mostly lode gold but placer gold can also be found.
In Adams county some flour gold can be found in rivers and streams, however the main source of gold comes as a result of by-product gold in the Cuprum Copper Mine.
In bingham gold can be found in the river running through it. 25,000 ounces of placer gold has been found here, perfect for any prospector with a sluice box and gold pan.
Blaine is the perfect place for a gold prospector. The vast majority of gold in the county has been found in one long valley, pan any river within it and you are almost guaranteed to find gold. Gold has been found in considerable quantities in Hailey, Ketchum and Bellevue. Although not many ancient riverbeds will be found in this area due to the creek funneling water flow there is most definitely an opportunity to find high benches that have never been prospected before ;).
Like Blaine, Boise County is a good area as it has many placer deposits dotted throughout it. Gold can be found in the Boise Basin, also in the Salmon River and the Clearwater River. Flour gold can also be found in Snake River. Pioneerville, Quartzburg, Centerville and Grime Creek all sit on top of vast quantities of placer gold.
Up to 16,000 ounces of placer gold has been extracted from Bone in Bonneville county, surely there’s more of it lying around ;).
In Camas County the vast majority of gold has been extracted through hard rock mining in Carrietown as it is lode gold. However, due to the erosive forces of nature some placer gold can also be found in rivers in the surrounding locality.
In Cassia County gold can be found in Burley, Black Pine Mountain and the Snake River.
In Burley there have been many tailings left behind from old lead mines in the area, i would strongly recommend that anyone with a decent metal detector go to this area and go through the tailings for gold nuggets. Gold can also be found as lode & placer gold in the Black Pine Mountain area and as placer gold along the Snake River.
n Clearwater county gold can be found in Pierce and the surrounding river and drainage systems. There are many sand banks and gravel bars in the district that are too big for all of them to have been prospected. I’d give my left arm to go into some of them with an excavator and a full scale gold production plant :). In the image beow you can clearly see the lie of the land – all of that gold being funneled into a narrow creek – awesome.
Custer County is choc a block with gold. It is one of the most gold-laden states in the county along with Boise and Blaine, as a result i have to show two images for Custer.
In Loon Creek 40,000 Ounces of placer gold has been extracted, in Stanley there are rich gold deposits. In Yankee Fork a WHOPPING 266,000 ounces of placer gold has been found – “quick, start the car, where’s my sluice box?” :).
Through the southern part of the county the geology begins to change, this results in by-product gold being found in zinc and lead mines Stanley, Mackay and Bayhorse.
Elmore county is a prospectors heaven. It is full of placer gold locations. In Atlanta, up to 85,000 ounces of gold has been extracted. Rocky Bar has rich placer gold locations and Featherville has produced 2,000 ounces of the yellow magic :).
Idaho county Idaho is the center of the state for good reason, you couldn’t swing a cat in the state without finding some gold :), for that reason there are three images showing where to find gold. Lolo Creek is the perfect place for dredge mining, as in Gold Rush Alaska. Kooskia and Grangeville have plenty of placer gold locations.
Quartzburg, Placer and Centerville are all contained within a large river valley system. This has funneled the gold into a tight space. 2 million ounces of gold has been extracted from the Grime Creek/Placerville area, 2million!!!!
Rich gold placer and lode locations can also be found in White Bird, Orogrande, Elk City, Riggins and the Warren/Burgsdorf areas.and
